Causes of Teenage Suicide

By Dr. Maisie M

Suicide is the third leading cause of death in teenagers especially between the age group 15 to 19. Though teen suicides are more like an impulsive act lacking maturity, there is no way you can justify people around them who fail to notice or downplay their cries for love, attention and help. What is it that drives the teens to believe that life is too difficult to deal with? Let's have a look...

Adolescence has always been a period of confusion with varying temperaments where teens have to deal with academic, social and individual pressures. Additional stress factors like poor performance, fear of punishment, rivalry, violence in the family etc can make them feel there is nothing to live for. Teen suicides are like precious lives turned futile causing an irreparable loss to the individual as well his close concerns.

The need to be addressed
Minors choose death because suffering becomes intolerable as per their perception. There is little hope for change, improvement or possibility of a better future with the life that they experience. They have an easy solution in mind i.e death which means no pain. Most of the teen suicidal attempts are the resultant of inability to handle depression effectively.

Facts about teen suicide
·        Clear warning signs precede suicides in more than 90% of cases
·        More suicides occur because of depression than being afflicted by fatal diseases
·        Not all teenagers who commit suicide are mentally ill
·        Possibility of completing a suicide increases with the number of attempts
·        Most teen suicides can be prevented by effective communication and psychotherapy
·        One should pay attention to the post-depressive period, when the individual looks near normal, yet it could be an unsafe period

Causes of teenage suicide

·        Disharmony in the family
·        Unhealthy or abusive relationships or a break-up
·        Alcohol or drug abuse
·        Feelings of anger and guilt
·        Physical or mental disorders
·        Poor academic performance
·        Sibling rivalry
·        History of suicide within close circle
·        Experience of a personal loss
·        Inability to handle hardships due to low energy and depression
Notice the red alerts

Parents need to look out for the warning signs and differentiate them from the normal teen angst over helplessness. Expression of feelings related to depression and worthlessness definitely means something is going seriously wrong. These symptoms may be present together or in varied combinations and can be addressed effectively if noticed earlier.
·        Complaining of sadness, fatigue and emptiness
·        Statements and jokes about death and suicide
·        Loss of interest in fun and recreation
·        Neglect of appearance
·        Not responding to praise
·        Social withdrawal and staying aloof most of the time
·        Aggressive expressions of hatred and anger
·        Insomnia and sleep disorders
·        Trouble concentrating on studies
·        Signs of hallucination and weird thoughts
·        Physical signs like body aches and pains
·        Indigestion and major changes in weight
·        Drug or alcohol abuse
·        Meeting people one cares about
·        Setting affairs in order
·        Throwing away important possessions
·        Verbal hints like "I won't cause a problem much longer"

Prevention: Get help immediately
Immediate consultation with a mental health professional is a must in extreme to moderate cases. An in-depth psychological evaluation with appropriate medications followed up in a timely manner is necessary. Local support groups and hotline numbers should be made available to teens so they can reach someone in emotional crisis.

Parents should watch over their teenagers and help them clear their distortions about life and bring back hope and vigor back again. Trust me, no magical spells are needed, help them open up and express whatever they feel. Do not leave the kid lonely and let there be more than one person he can turn to for help. It can be his guardian, friend, teacher, counselor, family doctor or anybody he can trust. Assure him that such feelings are temporary and will surely pass. Keep weapons like guns, blades and medications away from his reach. Agree to help the person whenever he wishes to speak out his feelings. Do not argue and find faults. The fact that someone is helping him figure out a way to betterment has a healing effect on him.

  1. This is an extremely actual article for today life. I found it very useful especially for those people who have such kind of problems after which teenagers commit suicides. Unfortunately, nowadays, parents are not so careful with their children, therefore, i considerably agree with you. Because of additional stress factors like poor performance, fear of punishment, rivalry, violence in the family teenagers feel that there is nothing to life for. This is parents' fault. Teenagers' psychiatry is not so stable, that is why they are very sensitive as well as aggressive in any problematic situation. They take everything negatively seriously. In that case, parents should be always ready to talk to their children and to solve any problems with them. Children must not feel themselves alone, otherwise, such problems as alcohol and drug abuse, mental disorder, feelings of anger and guilt, and even personal loss will occur them. Later these problems cause suicide...(

    1. I don't think imposing all the burden on parents is a good idea, because parents do their best to make everything good for their kids. About psychiatry.. i believe that it is one of the best ways to confront the problem. As physicians are the ones who are skilled at their jobs, they can help a lot in preventing teenage suicides.

  2. I like this article very much because I`m interested in criminal or detective events. One more reason why I like it is that the language of the article is very wonderful. You can find there rare words which are related to the topic. There is no any piece of writing without mistakes. This article is not exception, I think, For instance, writer gave many causes and red alerts at the same time. It would be better if he gave these things according to their scales. One more structural error is that some causes and red alerts are needed to explain, such as, drug and alcohol abuse or setting affairs in order, and history of suicide within close circle.

  3. Dr. Maisie your article can become one of the best sources to warn parents and urge them to be attentive while bringing up their children. You have given even some advice to them. You started the article that suicide is third leading cause of death in teens. It will be better, in my opinion, if you wrote about first and second leading as well. Because in readers’ mind may appear interest to them when they read it. Besides that you provide parents with some ways for how to realize and what to do with teenagers who are likely going to suicide. But not only parents may come across like this situation. Young people can also recognize that their friends will suicide. So, the article will be improved if you give some advice youth what to do in order to prevent the teen suicide.

    2. I also think that the author should provide the two leading causes, it'd be interesting for us. I am alittle bit uncertain, is it really the third leading cause, because I heard it is krokodil drug, about which we discussed in the Integrated skills class recently.

This is one of the perfect articles I've read so far. Providing the information about "symptoms" of possible suicide was the most effective way to make the article more useful. But I want to criticize a bit.
I don't consider the alcohol or drug abuse as one of the causes of teenage suicide. Because, any person who is addicted to drugs doesn't care anyone but himself and his concerns. All what he needs is money which decreases the degree of pain appearing if not taken drug. How one who is avoiding little pain can allow himself to experience big pain, like death. On the way to find money he may reluctantly deprive others of life but not himself. He is so full of enjoy and groove that there is not any thought of stopping their entertainment by killing themselves in one's mind.

    1. Let me kindly disapprove of your opinion! Alcohol or drug abuse is one of the biggest factors that play a key role in teenage suicide. As you know when people become addicted to alcohol and/or drug, they're totally unable to control themselves and do whatever comes to their mind at once. They lose the boundaries between the feeling of precious life and the death. Thus, they don't really care, which means they are always one step away from suicide. Briefly saying... don't you think alcohol/drug addiction is already suicide?!

      Delete
    2. No, I don't.
Because suicide is more about delibarate action when one intentionally (not accidentally) kills that one. Drug addicted people don't kill themselves on purpose, but just a great amount of fix kills them. At the beginning of taking drugs they didn't start doing it with the aim of leaving the life soon. What surrounds their mind from the beginning taking drugs to their realizing that they die soon is the current drug reception and is more likely an enjoy from it.

  5. This article is a great guidance for those parents who seek helpful methods to deal with their tough teenage children. They say what a person experiences during his teenage years will affect how he lives for the rest of his life. Today teenagers feel ever more stress and pressure, that is why the article should reach every household. When a teenager says that he plans a suicide he indirectly asks you to stop him.
As mentioned by the author, When a adolescent fells unwanted and unbelonged in family, possibility of suicide increases.
Hotline agents and therapists, as said by author, are best to treat suicide-minded teenagers.

  6. The article is really good! Suicide of teens is a current problem discussed by all countries over the world. As a matter of fact, a suicide of teens happens much more often than adult's one.

Your diligence to reveal all causes of teenage suicide can't be invaluable. It's distinctly shown that teens are mentally unstable and can be affected by "surroundings" leading them to contemplate suicide. I fully agree with you,Dr. Maisie, that teens from 15 to 19 have to deal with academic, social and individual pressures. During that period teens are supposed to be supported by parents, friends and teachers at study places.

You indicated all causes, but i would like to add one more that's about following people dead. It can be anyone from parents, someone very close, or just the idle who made a suicide leading teenagers to do the same!

Iroda, i have a little bit different opinion about addiction to drugs and alcohol beverages. From my point of view, it's a phenomena when teens are killing themselves being unaware of that. It's a type of a suicide, because, as we know, people addicted to drugs with the lapse of time tries to take a fix that's bigger than the last one. Finally, the fix kills.

  7. Your article was written about one of the global problem in the world. It is very good. At the same time it is very interesting because of statistic information, details and facts. So that it takes more attention.
Now we will speak about problems in your article. As you know, your text about “Causes of teenage suicide”. As a rule, you should focus on causes of this global problem. It is good that you gave causes step by step. But you didn’t give definition or explanation for them. You only counted them on the way. Except for, you wrote different ideas that don’t relate your topic. It means that you didn’t follow the rule. You have 2 way in order do well in your article. First one is you should pay attention only causes of teenage suicide.Second one is you can change your topic for just “Teenage suicide’

    1. Ulbosin, reading your comment I've noticed that you read it carefully paying attention to everything! That's great! Unfortunately, not all students do the same.
Let us figure the absence of definitions out. May be she didn't give definitions for causes because there is no need to explain them? I mean that all causes listed are clear and understandable.

If you were a Dr. Maisie, what paragraphs would you omit/except?

      Delete
    2. Further, we can point out as mistakes the following: many of the causes are obviously interlinked i.e. one is, at the same time, the subpoint of another one. It's like saying, "there are different kinds of animals - mammals, reptiles, whales, dogs". SO it's the thing to be taken into account.. but anyway.. here it's not of a much importance to talk about mistakes, but to discuss so-called "global problem" as u have put it.

    3. If the topic is changed the author will rewrite it. Because, Ulbo'sin the topic you offered is very general and it will need more information than the previous one. It means that the writer will have to give very big amount of information that supports ro make the readers get bored

  9. Valikhan, I strongly disagree with you. Yes, of course, we can understand the causes with the help of dictionaries if some words are unfamiliar for us. But I don't consider the article which just lists the main points as a perfect job. She should have devoted her article to the causes and doubtlessly, should have explained how the listed causes can result in the teenage suicide since the main indicator of the content meaning of the article, is its title, which says about "CAUSES".
Also, the causes listed in the article can be understood in a number of ways. Because every reader has his own and different view on things. The author should have defined them based on her own outlook, clarifying them in his own way of thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Iroda, i'm not saying that the writer shouldn't provide definitions, i just asked Ulbosin's opinion! The key word was "May be".

P.s. Thanks that you shared your opinion with us.
And please, next time read my comments carefully!

  11. I disagree with Valikhan.Because I consider that some causes and red alerts should be explained. For instance,"history of suicide within close circle". What did the writer want to mean by saying the "circle"? What is the similarity between suicide and close circle? "Setting affairs in order" Why the person who is going to suicide him/herself, thinks that he/she sets all the things in order?

    1. I appreciate your (of all who are attending this discussion) enthusiasm.. but we should keep in mind, the article is designed for the audience with good knowledge in english.. there are special terms like history of suicidal within close circle, or setting affairs in order which are completely comprehensible if you have faced them before reading the article. The former is a word-phrase used to define 'any record of suicidal among the people who are close to you, i.e. your close friends, relatives, sibling', the latter is utilized to mean to arrange everything and make everything ready for your funeral and after-death expenses for children. Setting affairs in order is the procedeure of making everything convenient for the people who leave behind so that a person who is suiciding doesn't make problem for his/her children, relatives, etc after death. So, be careful before 'strongly disagreeing' with smn! :)

    3. Toshkenboy, Yes, may be you are right, articles should be read by people with good English knowledge. But do you think it's good to just list the main points for which the article is devoted to? If it's OK, in that case everyone can write articles, can't they?
I think it's better if he clarified what he means by each cause, not the definition of course, at least providing some statements why he thinks they are the causes, how those causes may lead to suicide. Article writers should say something by the article, not leaving the reader in his/her own thoughts.

      Delete
    4. That's exactly what the author and our teacher wants us to. By not providing elaborate information, they want us to deeply think about the issue. I maintain, in my opinion, "statements why he thinks they are the causes, how those causes may lead to suicide" - are the things what our teacher wants us to discuss about in here. Besides, the article is devoted to teenage suicide not to the causes or alerts.. but the author could manage to feature much data including facts, causes, alerts, ways of prevention, etc. Maybe the way you feel about the article is right, but i think it's as i mentioned above... thank you for your ideas =)

I see how you are discussing about lack of detentions for causes. I think there is no need for them. Everything is clear and understandable enough. And about the “history of suicide within close circle”, as I understood, that means whether you had been a witness of any suicide within your close friends or relatives in the past(=close circle).

  14. Teenage suicide, in my opinion, is a very good issue to talk about. As we hear every day, the number of teenagers committing suicide is increasing. I believe, there are not any students among us who dare (or who think it’s a good idea) to contemplate or attempt suicide. If there’s any, this article is going to be what the doctor ordered, because this article is of an extremely high significance to prevent suicidal.

  15. The article is excellent. Having read it, I have learned A LOT about the causes and warnings of suicidal. Importantly, the following will definitely catch the attention: the first and foremost thing the death stems from is depression. It was new for me to learn that suicidal has clear signs.. I always thought it was unnoticeable… Seemingly, it has clear signs that may possibly warn others to prevent suicidal from happening. I agree with the majority causes, but I have some doubts with ‘poor academic performance’. In my opinion, among them ‘experience of a personal loss’ is one of the top causes of suicidal. All in all, the article is very useful and can be of great assistance for others to help their friends to feel better and not to, even, give it a try to do bad things.

  16. This is a very useful article, suicide is commonly discussed topic, and it's a problem that we can’t leave without attention. Everyday teenagers commit suicide, and adults didn't even notice that their child had had troubles, so I agree with the article, and think that if somebody pays attention to teenager, suicide can be prevented. In this period of life teenagers are not always able to see a solution and they feel loneliness and misunderstanding. I also liked, that I found not only reasons of why it happens, and the solution, «red alerts". It can be very useful in our future, and make us pay attention before someone "fall from".
And Mohinur, about your doubts with "poor academic performance", firstly I also didn't think that it can be reason for this, but I read about suicide and found out that it's also really important thing. As a matter of fact, some people, especially this period, have a lot of plans and goals, but when they face troubles, they can't cope with it and give up. Also, sometimes parents push on their children, they always must be on the top, and they again are broken. Isn’t it reason?

  17. huuuhh... Really an interesting topic and more interesting comments.. Feeling a little hard to comment, because lots of different ideas are coming at once..

Saying generally, the issue about "teenage suicide" is quite actual, however it was not the thing that caught my attention. The word 'causes' played much more role in capturing it. Dr. Maisie M. did an inestimable job for society by explaining the major and minor causes of teens' suicide. I appreciate it and I agree with nearly all her statements. However, I'd like to get at the root of the problem. What I want to say is that those causes may be just perfunctory causes, that is not the main ones. I guess, first of all, we should think about the cause that leads a kid to exactly "suicide". I mean the cause that makes him/her think that death is a way out. It could be a religious side, as well as the moral side. I want to say that explaining your kids the value of their lives and aftereffects of the suicide could help much more in solving this problem. Because in my opinion, preventing the problem is much more wiser than letting it appear and then trying to find the solution!

I beg pardon for going slightly out of the topic. Just wanted to make you look on this problem from another angle of view..

    5. Not feeling belonged or wanted in family may result in suicide, but in my opinion, they are not the main causes, as Anvarjon said. Among the suicides I've heard so far the suicide committed because of being in debt for a huge amount of money and unable to pay it back is the most widely committed. That's why the main cause is this, to my mind. Maybe, this kind of suicide is committed more in Uzbekistan.

  21. Commit suicide because of losing jewelers or phone?! It’s something out of rationality. I don't know how people should feel themselves if they decided to do such thing...and I totally agree with Mika that religious side is very important, and if children know how important it’s, they will not even think about killing yourself. Also, I think, now people from very early years concentrate only on themselves, it's like being selfish. I mean, teenagers don't think how they can hurt their parents and friends by doing this. they think only about the simplest way, no responsibility and no punishment. They don't want to fight difficulties, and it's somehow fault of every one!

  29. As the author indicated a lot of reasons such as disharmony, arguments with sibling, brother and other family members, hardship and difficulties can cause teenage suicide. Others, how do you think about fatuous teen suicide? Is the way they behave true and commit suicide for worthless reasons? Teens more often denounce their parents and others round them for their commission of suicide. It's not so true, because parents want their children to be well bred and happy. Commiting suicide for parents' and others' scolding them seems not to revere the donation as life which GOD granted and like they cann't control themselves. By the way, parents and others also should communicate with their children and teens in an amble(friendly) way. I think if they understand each other well, teens and they wouldn't suffer from this tragedy. In case of mental, psycological diseases, teens should often be seen by psycologists, doctors.

Because I consider kind of article is also published in newspapers in order to warn parents how their children feel themselves or what kind of things they are suffering from. After reading such kind of articles, parents start observing their children`s attitude to everything or they try to understand and respect their desires also. They try to be more close their children, and there are any problem with their children they will be ready to give a hand them. I don`t think that all these parent know words or terms which somehow related to the criminology, if the writer gives some explanation, it`ll be unnecessary to look for special dictionary.

  34. I have no comments to this article about language, accuracy and the relation of the topic with the article itself. But, i have some additional cause for suicide among teenagers nowadays, which the author forgot to write about. This is very popular social groups came from Europe identified as "EMO"s. the primary interests of the members of these groups are DEATH and SUICIDE. They think it's pretty normal and even dream about commiting suicide. Some Emos are proud of their atempts to suicide once or twice. The author had to give this reason also, in order to the picture be full.
However, the article is useful to read. Especially for those parents who have problems in comunication with their children.

    3. GuGusha, I do not quite share your remark that the person's intention to commit suicide is impossible to stop and bringing that person to favorable aims in life back again is hard to achieve. It is actually preventable and there are different ways for parents and friends to help that individual return to normal life. One of them is to talk heart by heart to that person and try to understand the immer cause of their desire to stop his life. One more way to help the currently mentally-sick person is to gift him a little animal to take care of. It is best if a puppy or kitten are these alternatives. Looking after them will make a suicidically- intended person forget about his dready aim and find a living creature to pass his love and care down to that new sweet friend. Just never say never!;)

    First of all, it`s awfull!!!
In my adolescence , I never even had an idea of suicide.
    I don`t undestand such people , more over I despise them .
Every problem can be solved . Such people should think over everything before doing this a big step, which leads to nothing .
Why people don`t think about their family or friends?
How will they feel after their death?
Unfortunately , I had an expirience with my schoolmate.
    She committed suicide ...
Poor she and her family ... ;((
Instead of it , she could live now and enjoy her life.
But we live in such world , in which many factors influence on us...

And as Dr. Maisie M mentioned we shouldn’t leave them alone, “there should be more than one person he can turn to for help. It can be his guardian, friend, teacher, counselor, family doctor or anybody he can trust”, because in these stressful situation teens need more help. That’s why, in my opinion, these people who are around them should show the correct way to teens. And I want to add that we are human, so we should be careful and helpful to everybody.
To sum up, I strongly agree this article and other’s ideas.

  40. Good article, this problem is issue of the day.
Nowadays, unfortunately we have a lot of incidents connected with teenage suicides.
I liked advice about how to prevent suicide, i think parents should pay more attention to their children.
As Yana said, there are really many groups which push you to commit suicide and they influence on teenagers' mind. However, child should think himself and should has his own opinion. yes, of course, each person faced with problems when he was teenager. First of all, you should think about your relatives. in my opinion those who killed themselves were selfish and spineless people. It is easier for them to die than solve their problems and care about parents!

  41. In my humble opinion, one cause of teenage suicide is parents because nowadays they are thinking about only grow children in good condition. i mean parents buy everything which teenage wants. P.s In addition,I think that you live in very good conditions without difficulties, and you don't realize what does it mean to live in not so good...I mean all of us should say thanks to parents if they do such kind of actions for our future

  44. Teenage suicide is one of the most controversial issues. In most cases parents' fault in bringing up children lead to such repercussions. In this article all reasons are clearly illustrated. Honestly say, I liked the article. First of all, it can be a good instruction for parents as how to behave with their teenage kids. Moreover, it is useful for us since we are studying as a future pedagogue. In academic life, teachers and professors can largely affect on teenage psychology. May be they can also prevent the teens’ suicide, since they are good psychologists.
Thus, the article is incredibly well organized with several causes and facts. However, the only drawback is insufficient of real life examples to make the article much stronger. It would be better to add teens’ opinions and some statistics. Anyway it is very well written. I got some new points.

  45. The given article is very interesting .I really liked it .The problem is also global. The author gave good, real examples, facts. The language of article is consisted of the words, which everyone can easily understand.
All my opinions which I want to write now is already given by Dr.Maisie

    ReplyDelete
  46. From my point of view, the author of this report raised a very essential topic, namely teenage suicide, that is gradually becoming a real matter of careful attention and concern. According to Dr. Maisie M, suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers of approximately our age group(from 15-19), therefore, this fact should already be taken into consideration by the government and the society as a whole. This "easy" escape from the problems of adolescence, when a person is challenged both socially and individually, some teenagers see in suicide, which "may" give them absolute relief from pains and brutality of the world. The same point of view I found in the author's statements in the report where, by the way, some good causes, signals of pre-suicidical condition and preventive methods to fight the intention to kill oneself, are presented to us.

The factors, which adversely influence teenagers' minds, leading them to a fatal mistake, are appropriate and, in my opinion, correctly chosen. In fact, I found out some new ones, such as sibling rivalry and history of suicide within close circle, which are new to me and, to my mind, may really serve the cause of some teenagers putting an end to their lives. Moreover, the warning signs and symptoms of pre-suicidical state of mind are carefully laid-out and they generally reflect the truth. However, the two signs, such as "meeting people one cares about" and "setting affairs in order" are not such strong evidences that may awaken one's parents' attention that something is seriously wrong with their offspring. Therefore, I am not quite agree with these two ideas. But, generally, the rest of the statements fully correspond to the problem. Most of all, the last paragraph impressed me most, owing to very clever steps suggested to take, in order to prevent suicidal. The author's suggestions about organizing local support groups and providing some hotline numbers, where teens could get assistance and understanding during their emotional crisises may, no doubt, happen to be useful and effective.

To sum up, I would like to add, that life is full of stress and tension which means such horrible and awfully wrong thoughts may enter anybody's mind; for this reason, people should be attentive to each other and do not let some of us go on staying aloof most of the time. As for this report, it is a good call for all of us to remember that someone near us may be in need of understanding and just a little bit of a friendly talk and attention.

  47. After reading the article I found a lot of useful information. It is considerably true that the number of suicide between teenagers is increasing. In most cases parents are not able to control their children. I think that if those parents will read this artile, they will get a lot. I am quite agree with the author's opinion. Some facts as alcohols, drugs, problems in academic perfomance, neglects can be the reasons for suiciding. But one should not forget that our life is not only consists of happiness and joy. It is life. Everything can be during it. We should not give up when we face problems, but always try to solve it. Only than we learn how to live in this messy but wonderful world!

  48. I agree with your opinion Yulduz. I also think that parents consider that if we provide our children with everything, if they don`t have any shortage, it means we have already been doing our parents` obligation. No need to be with them everytime, or it is unnecessary to show them our kindness. But it is wrong, because children feel themselves very bad, when they have "everything" except their parents`kindness and closeness. They think that my parents don`t like me, they are interestaed in only earning money. These feelings are increasing day by day, all the things lose their meaning for them. Suddenly, one very fearful thing come to their mind. It is suicide. Some children do this in order to release or to punish their parents. After such event, parents abruptly realize thier mistake, but it is uaeles, it is toooooo late. In order not to make such mistakes parents try to pay attention their children, children`s study or their behaviour more than they can. in this situation, teens suicide never occurs.

  55. First, when I read the article, I didn't have any idea about what to write, maybe it's just because I haven't heard much about suiciding and I can't even imagine either. Because it's such a disgusting problem, and I don't understand why people should ruin their whole life just because of some problems which can be solved if they think over. Even if people are in big trouble, they should always remember that life goes on, besides every problem has it's solution and suiciding is the easiest but at the same time the stupidest way of solving any kind of problem.
In order to prevent incresement of suiciding I think not only parents, but also teachers in schools, collages and universities, in general, government should pay more attention to youth.
Moreover, I don't think it's very omnipresent problem, especially in our country we don't often face with teenage suiciding, comparing with foreign countries, perhaps our nation is more intelligent and it's also considered to be one of the unfavorable things in our religion.
In general, I'd like to say that the issue is very serious, and interesting information, facts are given, after reading we can just leave our comments and opinions, because there's no need for new information here. At the end I'd just like to add one quote about life: "When you think you are not happy with your life, always think that someone is happy simply because YOU EXIST!"

I`ve heard a lot of accidents when boys jumped from the roof in order to prove their love...Such kind of people are very weak. I mean, they are not morally strong enough. They see only this way to solve any problem. Yes, I agree with writer, it is mostly connected with child`s upbringing. Parents should understand and give more attention to their children. They should feel themselves in their shoes and then make appropriate desicions how to teach them, how to overcome such problems and etc. Nowadays, we have many specialists as psychologists who can help.

And for teenagers with their unbalanced psyche and overwhelming feelings it's just quite impossible to deal with that kind of problems alone and understand them rightly. Advices like to keep more than one person whom the teenager believe near this teenager are very helpful. Because when teenager has person with whom he can share his problems and feelings, and that person gives him comprehension and tips, the kid won't even think of that kind of stupid things such as suicide.

  64. Good article enough. Actually the blog itself is good source in order to broad outlook, to learn the other people’s view to the point and other benefits can be found for different people. However, there is some issue regarding the applicability of main suicide reasons and factors leading to it in our country. I more than agree that the author of the article wanted to illustrate the main circumstances causing suicide among teenagers, but I keen to relate every possible fact to our country. I am personally did not have or did not observe such case, thanks god for it. Moreover, in Uzbekistan I did not noticed problems regarding lack of friendship among teenagers, from this common fact we could point out that when people have enough close friends who able to listen to them, I am more than sure that the level of suicide will be minimum. Furthermore, the feeling being important for someone will stop appearing thoughts about suicide, since it is one of the main psychological factors for any people worldwide to be motivated to continue to live. I know that there will be enough amounts of people who disagree with me and will tell that if I did not experienced it, I cannot make any statements regarding the issue. However, there is no any statistics regarding the suicide among not only teenager but also for other age groups regarding Uzbekistan or any Central Asia countries. Searching for the internet could show some information about Japan, USA and Australia and all those give information are not up to date. However, I did not have access to other empirical studies that is why my conclusion concerning our country is biased.

  66. Good article and in the same time instruction for parents. It is sorrowfully , but it is fact that cases of suicide rises and rises. I don’t know how in our country, but in Europe it is huge problem. In my opinion the most important factor of causing suicide is lack of attention. Attention in romantic relationships, in relations with friends and, of course, in family. I can even say that most of teens deaths were committed because of parents guilty. They could prevent such sad cases. Just have a small friendly talk with theirs kid , explain some life problems and say : “ Hey, don’t be sad! I’m with you” Parents should control teenagers , be informed what is happening in teen’s life.

  67. I learnt a lot of thing from this article. While reading it I realized how it is easy for teenagers to kill themselves also I got a lot information about symptoms and advices as well.It is helpfull to read such kind of articles for everybody.
I agree with everyone's opinion .They analized this very problematic thing, as Ruhsora said, very well.
I think that not only parents but teachers also responsible to take care of teenagers.Teenagers during their adolescence face o lot problems and because of them teenagers sometimes even kill themselves.
In my opinion we should be very careful. If someone from our friends have problem we should hurry up to help him.

  68. '' Problems Were Made To Be Overcome ''

    Problems appear in many guises,

they come in all shapes and sizes.

you have illness, emotional, financial to,

the question to ponder is, what can you do.

You can ignore them but they won't go away,

they will still be there the following day,

if you try to be positive you can put up a fight,

if you deal with them now things will turn out right.

Appreciate the dawning, and thank God while you may.

Many eyes did not open with this morning's light,
Many hearts are broken when ends the night.

Try to appreciate your life in every way
And remember - some people don't have today.

  70. I liked the article. As the previous one this article also involves one of the most important problems of youth. It's really pity that there are some young people, who are fed up with their life, being such young, and not every parent can understand the feelings of his child and support him. The article is very clear. the writer expresses his thoughts step by step. Every point has its imporant role in the article. The article includes almost everything, e.g., causes, presuicide period, advices, connected with teenage suicide, though very briefly. Nevertheless, I'm hesitating about some points in the article. For instance, being shown as one of the causes of suicide can poor academic performance really lead to suicide? I could't believe that young people, who have poor academic performance reject their life for such a problem. One more time, neglect of appearance was brought as warning sign, but maybe young person is so involved in other spheres, so that he/she has no time to take care of his/her appearance. Maybe, he/she is so spiritual that the external side of person doesn't interest him/her.

    1. Shirin I agree with you, but about academic performace I think that it's true..Because, you know, teenager especially nowadays have so many "big" problems which they have to deal with,so they're tired and unstable...I mean that even such problem like academic performance can lead to the end. The reason is that teenagers are obsessed with thoughts how to reach,be first and they just can't stand their failure and too tired to fight them
      it's just my opinion)

    2. Anyway it's the worst solution of the problems. Isn't it easier to try to find some other solutions rather than kill yourself?

    3. you are right, but when people feel hopelessness, they don't think about anything and anyone.. they can't see solution and don't want to fight(((

I totally agree with you Yulduz. so many times I witness that parents complain about that tey do not have any time for their children. they think only about money. in my point of view, it is BIG PROBLEM! Teens need their parents attention, care, love... Lack of these attention makes teenagers commit suicide, i think.

  73. I liked this article, because nowadays this problem becomes global. I watched a show on TV where this problem was discussed. They give good opinions and facts. They sad that, over the past decade the number of suicides among young people has increased by 3 times. The main causes of suicide: unrequited love, conflicts with parents and peers, fear of the future, loneliness. Every year, every twelfth teenager aged 15-19 years trying to attempt suicide. In Russia, the rate of suicide among youth 100 thousand. It is thought that suicide is a disease of depression - up to 70% of depressive patients show suicidal tendencies and 15% of them commit suicide. Also in internet there is such kind of people ,who are intentionally give advises to teenagers make a suicide. They tell them that they have also such kind of problem or that their problem is more serious than theirs, and that there’s one way to solve it to kill yourself and give advises how to do it .Most teenagers before suicide left letters to their relatives where they wrote why they did it and how they solve this problem with their ,,friend`` in internet. In my opinion parents should be more attentive to their children. They must make so strong relationship that can block ,,friends`` in internet but it does not mean that they can judge or punish ,they should help to SOLVE the problem. For teenager it would be better to explain that the problems in this world is just tests which you should solve and that parents always will be with you dispite you can take A+ or fail

  74. This article is about today’s burning issue. Because we know that nowadays more people suicide but most of them are teenagers. As my group mates said it is going to be global problem. There are a lot of contributions about this topic. When we heard about it, we will have question. Why do teenagers suicide. And the author gave the causes of suicide. The article warns parents to be more careful for their children. The causes which the author provided are really serious causes. After reading this article readers begin to think about their parents and friends. As Madina and mika mentioned if teenagers know their religious, they will never do such kind of bad thing. The teenagers who suicide are selfish. Because they don’ care about their parents. They do not think how their parents bring up them. It is difficult to see the children’s death for parents. In my opinion physical and mental disorder is the most cause of suicide. Because it is difficult to suicide for healthy people. If someone is going to suicide s/he needs power.

If I speak about the structure of article, it is good for. And the most important thing that the title and the introduction part can take reader’s attention at once. The article was written very understandable. The words usage is also good. But as Ulbosin said if the author gave definition for each causes, it would be better.

  75. As this article is about today’s burning issue, no one can read it without feeling. Because the youth are the new generation of a country. And it’s regretful to have such kind of problem with them. In this situation not only parents of one teenage but also each member of that country, from old to youth should be ready to keep the teenage from that danger.

  76. First of all, we must thank the author- Dr. Maisie for a useful and interesting article. Noticeable that she approached this topic with great responsibility, although in a different way to treat this subject is impossible. It’s not a secret that today the problem of adolescence, attracted much attention, and the solution of these problems by adolescents are generally shocking. This is an acute phase in the life of every child, because this period is the final establishment: the personality, character and views on life. I believe that very few young people themselves can cope with problems that arise in adolescence, and they really need help. I can confidently say that from my experience that it is very important not to be alone during this period and have a close loved one. I really liked the article because Dr. Maisie listed all the signs, causes and antecedents of suicide, and it can help many parents at the time to understand what is happening with their children and to prevent irreparable.

  77. In my opinion, this article is somehow good. But i think, even if parents dont leave their children alone and always ask about their life there are some possibilities that it will not help. This problem is very serious because of some useless and unimportant things young people forget about their parents and kill themselves. In spite of the life has only begun and there are a lot of things to live for! it will be useful to explain children that in our life we have a lot of solveless problems but its really bad and selfish killing the most important that your parents have. This article showed to us variety of suicide reasons and what about some more examples how to help and stave off the tragedy.

  79. I totally agree with everything that written here, ideas are clear. Even signs are given. I don't know even what to say. Such awful action (suicide) and such awful thoughts. Teen period is such period when person confuses everything. and many teens are doing such action because they think that they don't have enough power to deal with problems. Of course in these kinds of situations parents play major role in teens action. They should be careful, and don't make them stay alone. of course they should "Assure them that such feelings are temporary and will surely pass." as it mentioned in this article

  80. Very interesting topic. I like all ideas of this article. Nowadays, very touchable issue. It is very useful for us and for growing generation. I like the causes that author gives. But let it be unhappy break-up, drug abuse or poor akademic performance I think, if parents grow up them properly they will never commit such kind bad things. One more cause is spreading bad ideas in the internet, I think the authority and moderators should control it and prohibit spreading bad ideas on the sites. Parents should control their children and they shouldn't allow them even to think about suicide.

  81. Suicide is the most omnipresent problem of adolescence. Adolescence, it is a period of time when a teen begins to step to the big social life. They begin to realize what is happening around them. At that time every teen stays among the problems which seem too 'big' and 'serious' to solve for them. While trying to find solution ,they feel they don't have enough power to deal with them. Unfortunately most of teens find out the easiest way to escape from such 'big' problems:to suicide themselves.
Desiring to be the best, successful in every sphere and can't reach them in a short period of time can lead teens to suicide.
As the suicide is a vital issue for everyone the author could choose the essential theme for the article. I liked the article. It include all features of teen suicide:causes, symptoms, how to prevent and facts. The article calls people to be more attentive to teens. People especially parents and teachers should know what problems does have his child in his mind. As most suicides will happen as a result of less attention. Adults should explain to teens that adolescence is a temporary period which every person face once in his life. People should not just kill themselves as problems are made to overcome them ,however, at the end people can get whatever they want. Parents, teachers and friends should understand and encourage teens to overcome 'big' problems.

  82. When I read this article I understood one thing that period of teenage is very complicated and urgent matter. In this period parents and teachers also their friend should be very careful to friend. They don`t understand the live is given to them only for one time. Although there are many difficulties, humanity should try to solve that problems and try to live.
Because LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL WITH ITS DIFFICULTIES!

  83. I really liked that the author chose this topic for discussion, because now this theme is very popular and problematic. In this paper we give a lot of useful information that can help prevent suicide. As an example I can give life story. My friend committed suicide. And still no one knows why she did it. She was one of the happiest people in our class. Always smiled and was friendly with all the classmates. But in the last weeks before the tragedy, she has changed dramatically, and nobody knew what was happening to her. If we were able to read such kind of article, maybe we could have saved her life. Now I remember that when her mother described her behavior in the last days of her life and see that all the symptoms described by the author are true. I think that people need to read more such articles, to be able to help their loved ones in time.

  84. I have never seen who suicided him/herself, but I heard a lot of about it. For example, three years ago it was really problem in Japan that teenagers killed themselves by depression and love story. It is awful that one dies for someone which is not relative. I meant a failed love. And, also depression. If you had a depression, just go for a walk or do something in order not to be bored. But don't kill yourself as a clueless person. Every race try to live and achieve something in their life. Human also should get pleasure from life. As Brian Adams says: "If you lose yourself, your courage soon will follow". So let's live as prime kind of all creature!!!

  85. Each of us at least once in our life thought about suicide.
In most cases, this is the case in adolescence, as the author and said, with 15 to 19 years. In everyone's life when it is formed as a person, he turns everything inside, he begins to search for purpose in life. At this age, everyone tries to turn the world around them and find themselves and their place in society.
At this age, everyone thinks that only they have problem and the individual, and nobody else do not have such problems.
Some worry it's easy, without consequences, in most cases are adolescents who have social footing.
And those who do not remove enough listening, and caring experience that moment, painful as they do not have people who can support and give advice at the right time.
Every parent should notice the slightest change in mood and behavior of their child, and possibly a little more care and spend more time with your child.
As an author, and stressed the decision at the time noticed the signs and emotional conversation with a teenager can prevent suicide!

  86. Yes i liked this paragraph. In every teenager's life will be such kind of situations, when you will think about suicide. Yes, we can see that some teenagers think " Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem." I disagree with this statement, but in life has such kind of situations that it is only way.........It's my opinion of course.
In this paragraph we can see a lot of causes of teens suicide. First of all, who can help them, they are their parents! They should always support, understand and care of them! I think, the biggest cause of this no ability to find, try or solve problems even they are small. That's why every parents should bring up their children from the childhood explain them that every problem has a solution. Parents should talk and spent much time with their children.

  87. Useful article! I concede that teenagerhood or "passing period" is the most difficult time. In this period people need more attenton than ever. So even itte attentivelees can be cause of depression or stress. Therefore, parents and friends shou be more kind and sympathetic for teens. It may be a little way to avoid teen's suiside.

  88. Suicide is a real problem of our days. Everyday so many teenagers commit a suicide because of misunderstanding what is it. This article is very useful for everyone. We are future parents and need know about this information to prevent suicide. So why teenagers do that? In my opinion, one of the reasons is that teenagers stay alone with their problems. In a nutshell life become really hectic so people don't have time to pay attention to others

    ReplyDelete
  89. In my point of view, teenager’s suicide is increasing issue of nowadays, and it has a bad influence to youth. Maybe they can have some problems in their life such as family problems, love, with friends, study, job and etc... However, they must find a way for solving their problems instead of just losing control on themselves. Majority of adults are not mentally well developed: therefore, they can easily fall under negative and violent influence of television and some internet websites that persuade them to do uncontrolled actions such as murdering, robbing and killing themselves. Some issues that are connected with their life routine seem as a dead end but there are several ways to solve these difficulties with the support of their real friends and family. Nowadays many parents try to earn more money and sometimes forget about their children. Furthermore, they should pay more attention on their children’s behavior and make them feel secure in the family…

  90. Abduvahid.
Problem mentioned in this article is an alarmingly-important one in the modern society. Lots of teenagers choose this way to escape from the cruelty, complexity and rudeness of the life, thinking that there is no hope for better and no place they could find and position they could take in order to solve their problems reach self-realization and just be happy. After reading this article, I once more contemplated on the causes of such a drastic condition and the ways both government and society should take for preventing teenagers from committing suicide. I find all the data included in the article to be true and logically correct, moreover, somehow being useful to analyze the teenagers behavior and mental condition in order to make out some suspicious changes in them. The factors leading to suicide given by the author are up-to-date at present, however, I would like to add one more. In many schools and colleges teenagers can face the problem of bullying. It can take a variety of forms, from social groups. In my opinion, the last form is the most dangerous, since a solitary teenager feels unworthy and depressed and may come to the decision to kill himself. Thankfully, it happens in extreme cases, though, other negative results may turn up in the end, such as difficulties with interpersonal relationships as adults, becoming physically violent and so on.
In general, the article reminded once more that something should be done with this problem – the problem of teenage suicides – and moreover, advised some preventive steps to take to handle it. I liked the article
